According to a recently submitted permit application, Southern burger chain Whataburger is building another new outpost in San Antonio, in addition to the locations coming to 6311 Old Pearsall Road and 10411 Shaenfield Road, as reported on by What Now San Antonio over the last couple of weeks.

Opening next fall at 8842 Grissom Road, the eatery will land near establishments such as Subway, Ubuntu Cuisine, and Wok Inn.

What Now San Antonio reached out to Whataburger to inquire about the company’s expansion in the Alamo City, but a representative could not provide additional information in time for publication.

Nevertheless, the filing reveals that “construction of [a] new fast food restaurant with sit-in dining and drive-thru service” is slated to begin on April 13, 2026, and finish on October 21, 2026. The 2,816-square-foot building will be constructed by the Houston-based firm Castles Design Group for an estimated $975,000.

For readers who aren’t familiar with the company’s history, Whataburger offers a brief overview on its website: “On August 8, 1950, an adventurous and determined entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson opened up the world’s first Whataburger on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. He had a simple goal: to serve a burger so big it took two hands to hold and so good that after one bite, customers would say, ‘What a burger!’”

Now, the chain boasts “more than 1,100 Whataburger restaurants across 16 states stretching from Las Vegas to the Carolinas.”

An opening date has not been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
