The owners of Baka Umai on Hawthorne may soon introduce a new location for the restaurant.

A liquor license application was recently submitted for 1203 NW 23rd Avenue in the Northwest District area. This would be the second Baka Umai location. An opening date for the space hasn’t been released.

Baka Umai has received recognition in the past for some of the best ramen in Portland. It made the list of Oregon Live’s “Best ramen in the Portland area: Readers Choice Awards.” The restaurant offers many different kinds of ramen, crispy ota tofu currently, spicy noodles and katsu.

“Our broths, sauces and noodles are made fresh daily with precision and patience to provide our customers with a stupids delicious experience,” says the description on their website.

The restaurant would be going in at the corner of NW Northrup Street. It would join restaurants on NW 23rd Avenue like Red Onio Thai Cuisine and Top Burmese Burma Joy.

The hours of operation applied for are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and noon-8 p.m. on Sundays. There are also outdoor hours applied for, with food and alcohol service.

What Now Portland has reached out to the owner of Baka Umai Robert Greenup, and this article may be updated.
