Jersey Mike’s Subs, a fast-casual sub sandwich franchise with a 60-year history of serving fresh subs and promoting community involvement, is preparing to expand further throughout San Diego County.

Last year, What Now San Diego reported on Jersey Mike’s plans to open several locations across San Diego, including sites in La Jolla and other areas. The La Jolla location at 7770 Regents Road opened last year, and now there are even more locations coming to San Diego. A new Jersey Mike’s store is set to open in Bonita at 4378 Bonita Road, replacing the existing Subway in the Bonita Centre. JM South Bay will be the franchise owner for the new Bonita location, which is expected to open around the start of the new year, if not sooner.

“We have already submitted for permits, which can take several weeks to receive, and we are in the process of getting the plans finalized as there were some revisions needed,” Lyle Sprung, Managing Director of JM South Bay, tells What Now San Diego. “We are hoping we might be able to open sooner, but 5-6 months is the current timeline.”

Additional new locations will open in San Diego at 3065 Clairemont Drive within the Clairemont Village Shopping Center and in El Cajon at 13465 Camino Canada, Suite 101. Separate franchise owners will operate these sites and are part of Jersey Mike’s broader expansion strategy in Southern California. It’s unclear when these additional locations will open.

In April 2025, Jersey Mike’s appointed Charlie Morrison as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Peter Cancro. Morrison, a seasoned leader with a proven track record in the restaurant industry, previously led Wingstop’s expansion, growing the brand from fewer than 500 stores to over 2,000 locations globally. He plans to continue Jersey Mike’s expansion in the U.S. and internationally, focusing on growth, technological advancements, and digital transformation. Peter Cancro, who led Jersey Mike’s for 50 years, will remain as Chairman of the Board and is also a significant minority shareholder in the company.

Jersey Mike’s remains committed to its rapid growth. In 2024, the company announced its partnership with Blackstone to accelerate its global footprint and enhance technological innovations. With over 3,000 locations across the U.S. and Canada, Jersey Mike’s continues to be one of the fastest-growing fast-casual brands. The company is set to open hundreds of locations in the coming years, solidifying its place in both existing and new markets. When these new locations open, customers can expect fundraising for local charities, community involvement, fresh subs made to order, and a menu featuring high-quality ingredients, including fresh-sliced meats, vegetables, and signature sauces.
