The Gelson’s-anchored mixed-use development in Toluca Lake is progressing and is now expected to open later this year at 10057–10067 Riverside Drive.

What Now Los Angeles previously reported on the plans in 2022, when Gelson’s filed documents with the city to open a nearly 10,000-square-foot market at the corner of Riverside Drive and Mariota Avenue. The new location was expected to open in 2023. Now, according to WhatsNewSFV, this location is back on track and construction is underway. Although an official opening date has not been announced, construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The new Gelson’s will be a small-format concept, part of the company’s efforts to pilot new ideas within a more compact footprint. Features include a walk-up window for morning coffee and breakfast, as well as seating for lunch service. Customers can expect a wine cellar, poke bar, salad and soup bar, hot food bar, a service kitchen offering gourmet salads, service ice cream, a pizza oven, service meat and seafood, a floral department, convenient street-level parking at the rear of the building, and of course, a full selection of grocery and produce.

The news of this development comes on the heels of the company partnering with Upshop to bring a data-driven approach to all Gelson’s Markets, according to a press release. By utilizing artificial intelligence and real-time inventory tools, Gelson’s plans to enhance forecasting, reduce food waste, and maintain customer satisfaction while demonstrating its ability to compete with much larger grocery chains. This shift not only makes store operations more efficient but also underscores Gelson’s commitment to sustainability, community, and an enhanced overall shopping experience.
