According to a recently submitted permit application, the La Coste City Hotel — a historic hotel in Lacoste, founded in 1912 to “service the nearby railroad,” according to its website — plans to construct an additional 1600-square-foot area to accommodate its dining concept, The New Acadiana Cafe.
Located at 11280 Castro Avenue, Building 2, the hotel is neighbor to establishments such as the dive-bar Billy’s Place, El Ranchito Mexican Grill, and the coffee shop Schottzy’s.
What Now San Antonio reached out to the inn’s owner, Rodney Hitzfelder, to inquire about the upcoming renovations; however, he could not provide additional information before publication. Nevertheless, the filing reveals that construction is scheduled to begin on August 31, 2025, and is expected to be completed on November 15.
For readers who are unfamiliar with the history of the La Coste City Hotel, according to its website, it was founded as “Keller’s Place” in 1912. After operating for nearly seven decades as such, it was purchased in 1980 and converted into a bed and breakfast, and named after a sign found at an antique auction.
An introduction to the dining concept on the website states: “Our culinary offerings are led by Head Chef Christopher V, known for his cuisine at the original Acadiana Cafe. Guests can savor our signature Acadiana Catfish, Red Beans and Rice, Cajun Cabbage, and other beloved dishes from the renowned Acadiana Café, which was a San Antonio favorite for decades. With a menu that brings back the Cajun flavors, we deliver an experience you won’t forget.”
It’s unclear whether the menu will change alongside the physical adjustments and an opening date for the New Acadiana Cafe has not been announced yet. Follow What Now San Antonio on Facebook for updates to this story.
