All-you-can-eat Korean barbecue is headed to Allston.
Gen Korean BBQ House is opening its first location in Massachusetts at 121 Harvard Ave, according to a post within the Friends of Boston’s Hidden Restaurants Facebook group. The restaurant’s Google Business page confirms this news.
Known for its traditional all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue, Gen invites guests to grill endless rounds of meats, seafood, and veggies right at their tables. Meals are served alongside small Korean side dishes, or banchan, for a full feast. The Allston eatery has also secured an alcoholic beverages retail license.
The atmosphere at Gen is modern and lively, with ample seating and a focus on social dining. A previous Universal Hub report mentions that the Allston eatery will span two stories, with seating for 86 guests on the first floor and another 132 on the second.
Since launching in 2011, the California-based chain has grown to nearly 50 locations across the U.S., plus a couple in Korea. CEO David Kim, who joined Gen shortly after the company’s debut, brings decades of restaurant experience, having led brands like Baja Fresh and La Salsa. He has also managed various franchise groups.
While representatives for Gen Korean BBQ House have not yet responded to inquiries from What Now Boston, the Allston location is expected to open before the end of 2025. Follow the eatery on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
