The Bier Stube, a beloved bar with deep roots in the Columbus community, is making its return. Known for its casual atmosphere, cold beer and neighborhood feel, the spot has long been a gathering place for locals looking to unwind with friends.
The comeback brings new life to a familiar name, offering a space that blends the nostalgia of the original with updates to serve today’s crowd. Guests can expect a mix of classic drinks, bar food and the same welcoming vibe that made The Bier Stube a staple in the first place.
Owner Craig Kempton said, “I’m excited because I worked at the old Stube for 30 years, met my wife there, grew up there. I started when I was a 21-year-old punk kid, and now I’m turning 50 and we’re doing it again.”
He shared, “It just happened to work out that I used to live next to this new spot. I’ve always wanted it, and the timing worked out perfectly. It has been a long road, but the location is perfect and I can’t wait to open our doors. I’m just so excited to recreate the old bar. It will all be the same name. I brought the walls, the doors, the juke box – I brought it all!”
He said, “My job now is to make people feel at home when they walk in. Like they are returning home.”
He said he would not have done it without old materials from the original location. “It wouldn’t be the Bier Stube without it.”
A video posted earlier this week on Facebook is garnering massive attention, and Craig says if opening day is overrun, he welcomes it! “It’s been stressful, it’s been overwhelming, but I know it will be worth it!”
Its return adds to the city’s diverse nightlife and gives longtime fans the chance to relive old memories while creating new ones. For Columbus, the revival of The Bier Stube is a reminder that some local favorites never truly fade away.
