According to a recently submitted permit application, the Southern burger joint franchise Whataburger — well-known for serving hearty burgers, biscuits, and crispy chicken tenders — is preparing to debut a new location in Pearsall.
Coming to 2530 Water Street, the eatery will land near establishments such as Cowpokes Bar-B-Q, Jalisco’s Bar & Grill, and Starbucks.
The filing reveals that construction of the 2,816-square-foot spot (that will offer sit-in dining and a drive-thru) are slated to begin on April 20, 2026, and finish on October 28. For an estimated $1,278,500, the project will be managed by the Houston-based firm Castles Design Group.
For readers who aren’t familiar with the company’s history, Whataburger offers a brief overview on its website: “On August 8, 1950, an adventurous and determined entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson opened up the world’s first Whataburger on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. He had a simple goal: to serve a burger so big it took two hands to hold and so good that after one bite, customers would say, ‘What a burger!’”
Now, the chain boasts “more than 1,100 Whataburger restaurants across 16 states stretching from Las Vegas to the Carolinas.”
