Tiki Kai, a new tropical-themed restaurant and bar, is getting ready to open in Hermosa Beach at 73 Pier Avenue.
The new concept is set to take over the former home of Mediterraneo and Brews Hall near the city’s popular Pier Plaza. While an exact opening date has not been confirmed, owner Patrick Mescall shared on social media that the team is targeting an October 2025 debut. The space is currently under construction, but began hiring during the summer. Once open, guests can expect a tropical-inspired environment centered around food, drinks, and what the team refers to as “Aloha Hospitality.”
Mescall is a longtime hospitality operator in the South Bay area, with several bars and restaurants already under his ownership. These include Eat at Joe’s, The Hula Hula Room, The Sportsman’s Bar, The Bounty Room, The Sly Fox Irish Pub, Paddy O’Brien’s Irish Pub, and Torrance Tavern. Tiki Kai represents the latest addition to his growing portfolio, which spans multiple themes and customer experiences.
The location in Hermosa Beach’s Pier Plaza offers high visibility and a steady flow of foot traffic, making it a strategic fit for a concept focused on casual dining and bar service. The area is known for its concentration of nightlife and ocean-adjacent businesses, and Tiki Kai’s tropical branding is expected to align well with the neighborhood’s laid-back beach culture.
While the full menu has not yet been released, the restaurant is expected to feature island-style cocktails, tropical decor, and casual fare in line with its Polynesian-inspired theme. The hiring process for staff began over the summer, indicating preparations for a full-service opening in the near future.
