According to Culture Map San Antonio, a new community hub called Hey Hey Social plans to open at the Broadway News food truck park — a space created by the family-owned company Los Leones “to give local businesses, makers, and food lovers a welcoming platform to thrive,” per its website.
Under development at 2202 Broadway in San Antonio, the gathering space will provide seating for the existing food trucks’ customers, as well as contribute to the food and beverage offerings; however, Hey Hey Social’s menus have not been shared yet.
Hey Hey Social’s owner, Edgar Hernandez, tells What Now San Antonio that the concept will be a “hub for electronic music.” He adds, “We have outside vendors that are food trucks… during the weekends, they’ll be different DJs rotating. During the nighttime, we’re switching the concept to more of a social lounge.”
“I’ve been a professional DJ for over twenty years. I wanted a space dedicated to that scene and culture,” says Hernandez.
A few of the aforementioned food truck concepts already serving at the location include the Italian food truck Fratello’s To-Go, Mila Coffee, the matcha drink shop Mira Matcha, the Mexican food truck Carnitas Spot, and the Thai food concept Aroy Ver. Hernandez’s wife, Ruby Hernandez, also operates a boutique at the park called La Casa Frida.
“We don’t have an opening date yet; we’re still working with the city on permits. We had to do a very complete renovation of the building,” Hernandez concludes.
