Joe Beez Famous Sandwiches is bringing its New York-style subs to San Diego this Fall at 2349 La Mirada Dr. The dining option will be pick-up and delivery only once it opens, with hopes of expanding in the near future.
Owner and operator, Gregory Maden, tells What Now San Diego that the flavors of New York will literally be infused in each sub.
“It’s literally going to be New York rolls,” Maden said.
“I’m using a water filtration system that takes the PH balance and changes it to mimic New York City water. We will be using that water to make the rolls,” said Maden, who took over the family business at the beginning of the Pandemic.
Founded in the Hudson Valley in 2001 by Joe Baganz, Maden’s brother, the famous sandwich joint serves footlong sandwiches with “endless amounts of combinations.” Baganz’s vision was to create special sandwiches with fun names, and that’s exactly what he did. Then luck struck.
According to its website, with the help of an annual sandwich competition, Joe Beez now serves more than 100 different offerings. Surely there’s something for everyone.
“We are very community-oriented, and every year we’d do a sandwich contest, and the locals would submit. We’d often get a hundred to a 150 entries, we’d vote, pick the top three,” Maden shared.
The eatery also boasts a multitude of vegetarian and vegan options.
“That’s how we got the eggplant one. It’s one of my favorites!”
After moving to a new location on the East Coast in 2009, Joe Beez is now bringing its bold subs, wraps, and homemade salads to Vista, California. The menu will be similar to what’s being dished up in New York, minus its breakfast options, which Maden said he hopes to bring to San Diego in the near future.
The famed sandwich shop will join the likes of other healthy eating spots like Primal Balance Nutrition and California Dog Kitchen in the Sycamore Vista Business Park.
“I really get really good vibes when I’m in the area,” Maden said. “I just want to be an additional option for the community.”
Joe Beez Famous Sandwiches is expected to open doors the second week of October.
