WalletHub Report of Best Coffee Cities in America
Since Starbucks opened in 1971, coffee has become a daily staple for millions of Americans. According to the National Coffee Association, 66% of Americans drink coffee daily, totaling roughly 519 million cups.
Studies have also strengthened the culture of coffee, as caffeine in moderation has been found to improve health and longevity. Coffee is a social ritual in addition to the benefits it brings. At office stations and local cafes, it serves to get people through the work days and unite over a cup.
To rank the nation’s most coffee-friendly cities, WalletHub evaluated 100 locations based on café density, coffee prices, and other factors. As analyst Chip Lupo notes, coffee is both energizing and social, though it can be costly; households in top coffee-loving cities may spend up to $327 a year, while a third of Americans opt to brew it at home.
It’s no surprise Portland topped WalletHub’s list, thanks to its thriving café scene and passionate coffee community. For coffee lovers seeking the perfect cup, Portland proves why it remains the country’s top coffee city.
