Sally’s Apizza Set to Launch in Dorchester
The legendary New Haven pizzeria Sally’s Apizza is bringing its famous pizzas to Dorchester. The Dorchester shop marks the brand’s second Massachusetts location. The restaurant is set to open its doors for the community on September 30 at 5 p.m. For the grand opening day celebrations, customers must make reservations via OpenTable.
Founded in 1938 by Salvatore “Sally” Consiglio, the pizzeria is famous for its signature and authentic coal-fired New Haven pizza. The chain has preserved its original recipes and techniques, known for homemade tomato sauce and a chewy, charred crust, for generations.
Talking about the new milestone, Christian Bonaventura, Brand Advisor of Sally’s Apizza, said, “We’re thrilled to expand our footprint with the opening of our second Massachusetts restaurant here in Dorchester.”
“The success of Sally’s in nearby Woburn has stoked a passionate flame in the Boston area, and we can’t wait to bring our unique brand of excitement, which includes nods to several famous former and current Dorchester residents, to more of our fans. We’ve got a really fun lineup of entertainment for our grand opening event!” Bonaventura further explained.
Menu Highlights
The beloved pizzeria is renowned for its authentic coal-fired handmade pizzas, which have a thin, charred crust and tangy tomato sauce. The pizza is topped with creamy mozzarella, which melts and settles perfectly on the pizza inside the coal-fired oven.
Sally’s Apizza menu features ten mouthwatering pizzas, including tomato sauce pie, classic mozzarella and tomato, and the savory potato and rosemary. Apart from that, customers can also enjoy three rotating seasonal pies.
The restaurant menu is crafted by Chef Bret Lunsford and also offers other flavor-packed dishes like spicy Italian wings with Calabrian chili, tender, house-made meatballs served over silky whipped ricotta, and several types of salads. Customers can choose from the amazing variety of entrée selections like golden, cheesy chicken parmesan and decadent pastas such as creamy Rigatoni Vodka and rich, slow-simmered Tagliatelle Bolognese.
The restaurant’s bar menu highlights a robust selection of wines, draft beers, classic cocktails, non-alcoholic options, and fountain sodas, including New Haven original Foxon Park.
The Restaurant Experience
While the design and service have evolved, Sally’s continues to honor the legacy and family spirit of its original Wooster Street location. The restaurant’s authentic coal-fired oven can be easily recognized by its signature red and white colored tile patterns.
The dining room features honey oak wood-paneled walls decorated with autographed memorabilia, which creates a warm and nostalgic atmosphere. The caramel-colored American-style leather booths fill the space with a 100+ seat layout and a 12-seat bar. A seasonal patio seats 36 and offers outdoor dining in spring and summer.
