Onigiri Co., a fast-casual concept specializing in Japanese rice balls, is set to open in Toronto at 333 Bay Street.
The company’s first location will open inside the Bay-Adelaide Centre in Toronto’s Financial District, according to BlogTO. While an exact opening date has not been confirmed, Onigiri Co. is hoping to make its debut sometime in November 2025. Led by President and CEO Tim Kwan, the restaurant aims to introduce a focused, ingredient-driven approach to the traditional Japanese snack. Customers can expect a streamlined menu built around quality and convenience.
Onigiri Co. is billed as Toronto’s first restaurant dedicated exclusively to onigiri, also known as Japanese rice balls. The menu will feature staple flavors like Tuna Mayo, Spicy Tuna Mayo, and Umeboshi (pickled plum), all made with 100% Japanese rice and wrapped in premium nori. The brand’s philosophy is centered around doing one thing really well, with a tight focus on execution and consistency.
In addition to rice balls, the menu will feature a small selection of traditional side dishes, including spinach with toasted sesame and simmered Japanese pumpkin. The offerings are designed to complement the onigiri while aligning with a health-conscious and time-sensitive customer base.
Onigiri Co. is positioning itself as a convenient option for busy professionals in the downtown core, offering grab-and-go service that caters to Toronto’s growing appetite for quick, nutritious meals. With its debut, the concept adds a new dimension to the city’s Japanese dining landscape by focusing on a single, culturally significant dish.
