PopUp Bagels has its Atlanta debut planned for later this year. The bagel chain, which finds its roots in Connecticut and New York, has plans to open in a 1,213-square-foot space at 661 Auburn Ave., according to building plans submitted earlier this year. Franchise group Power Brands Hospitality is spearheading the expansion. Janvi Patel, franchise partner at Power Brands Hospitality, told What Now Atlanta that they plan to open the spot by the end of the year.
Patel grew up in Huntsville, Ala. and moved to New York City after college. There, Patel discovered PopUp Bagels, which began as a pandemic project from founder Adam Goldberg and eventually gained traction for its popular bagel offerings. The brand is known for its menu featuring simple, fresh bagels and rotating schmears.
“I would make the trek down from where I lived in Flatiron to the Thompson Street location, and I just fell in love with the brand,” Patel said.
The brand began to franchise last year and now has 14 locations across Connecticut, New York, Florida and Massachusetts, with plans for expansion as far as San Diego.
Power Brands Hospitality committed to franchising with the brand, with plans to expand the bagel shop to locations throughout the Southeast. Patel viewed it as a good opportunity to bring something she loved from New York to the South.
“I just wanted to bring one of the best pieces of my experiences in New York City back home,” Patel said.
Eventually, they plan to bring five locations to Georgia, spreading across the state. Further details beyond the initial location are unknown at this time.
“I always felt like Atlanta was the food scene of the South,” Patel said. “It made sense to bring one of the best bagels in the country to Atlanta.”
Power Brands Hospitality has plans for additional locations along the East Coast. They are also spearheading PopUp Bagel’s North Carolina expansion, targeting the Charlotte market for multiple locations.
