On October 2, the San Francisco Department of Public Health conducted a routine inspection of Fenikkusu. The casual Japanese facility was asked to close temporarily due to health code violations.

The menu includes seafood tapas, donburi, and maki. However, the San Francisco establishment’s health permit was temporarily suspended on October 2 due to food code violations.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health reported that a food worker was storing and preparing sushi rice at the 3-compartment sink

The report added that mice droppings were seen by the inspectors at Fenikkusu’s food preparation areas. These included the area under its 3-compartment sink near the cook line and at the front counter.

Food grease and debris were observed around the cooking equipment and underneath the cook line of the Japanese food establishment.

The report mentioned that an additional open flame burner was added to the cooking of Fenikkusu without prior approval from the department.

A red sanitizer bucket was stored under the kitchen handwashing sink. As per the report, dirt, debris, grease, and food soil were observed behind the cooking equipment and the 3-compartment sink’s wall area at Fenikkusu.

Follow-Up Inspection

The report recommended that Fenikkusu request a reinspection when ready. Additionally, the San Francisco-based eatery was asked to clean and sanitize the affected areas.
