Namaste Indian Cuisine, a Bay Area-based Indian restaurant group, is getting ready to open in San Francisco at 2848 23rd Street.
The company’s fifth location is set to move into the former home of 14 Peaks Nepalese Cuisine and Buttermilk Southern Kitchen in the Mission District, according to a recent liquor license application. Owner Dilip Gurung tells What Now San Francisco that he hopes to open the restaurant around the first week of December. Customers can expect Namaste’s signature Indian dishes, including vegetarian curries, tandoori specialties, and thali platters.
Founded in 2011, Namaste Indian Cuisine operates multiple locations across the Bay Area, including Palo Alto, Los Gatos, and Santa Cruz, as well as Namaste Grill in Santa Cruz. Each location focuses on offering authentic Indian cuisine in a welcoming environment. The Mission outpost will bring these flavors to a new neighborhood, expanding the brand’s reach and accessibility.
The Mission District location marks the group’s first San Francisco restaurant and reflects the growing demand for Indian cuisine in the city. The restaurant will feature traditional dishes cooked with fresh ingredients, a full tandoor menu, and a selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options designed for both takeout and dine-in.
The menu will include popular dishes such as Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, Lamb Rogan Josh, Malai Kofta, Chana Masala, and a variety of seafood curries. Diners can enjoy thali platters, a combination of entrees with rice, dal, naan, salad, and dessert, offering a complete Indian dining experience. Spice levels can be adjusted from mild to hot, and naan varieties include plain, garlic, cheese, and specialty options.
Gurung, who serves as Executive Chef across the Namaste locations, has been involved in the restaurant group since its founding. He emphasizes traditional preparation methods and authentic flavors, ensuring that each location maintains consistency while catering to local tastes.
