Taverna Sorrentina, a traditional Italian restaurant with a modern flair, is getting ready to open in Danville at 100 Railroad Avenue.
The restaurant will move into the former home of Isola Osteria, according to a recent liquor license application. While an exact opening date has not yet been confirmed, the owners hope to open before the end of the year. Guests can expect a menu highlighting Sorrento-style seafood, steaks, and pasta, with table-side presentations of flame-finished steaks and freshly made tiramisu, along with a wine and cocktail program focused on Italian and Northern California selections.
Taverna Sorrentina is being opened by three native Italians, Valerio Piscopo, Giovanni Della Peruta, and Rosario Mazzocchi, according to Diablo Dish Magazine. All three were born and raised in the Naples and Amalfi Coast region and have spent the past decade working in Danville, including at various locations of Locanda Ravello. This marks their first solo restaurant venture.
The restaurant’s concept emphasizes generous portions and approachable pricing rather than fine dining, with a menu that showcases traditional flavors from Sorrento, Italy. Lead chef from the Sorrento coast is arriving to finalize the menu, which will feature seafood dishes such as oysters, clams, shrimp, swordfish carpaccio, and tuna tartare, alongside steaks and pasta including table-side cacio e pepe.
Taverna Sorrentina will also feature a visually driven cocktail program led by co-owner Della Peruta, as well as a curated wine list of Italian and Northern California labels. The focus on traditional dishes with modern touches is intended to appeal to both longtime Danville residents and visitors seeking authentic Italian cuisine.
The owners considered Walnut Creek and Alamo for their first solo project, but chose Danville because of their familiarity with the community and local opportunities.
