Oi Shiba, a San Diego-based ramen restaurant known for its Japanese-inspired bowls and inventive side dishes, is preparing to relocate to 4428 Convoy St, Suite 120.
The new location is set to move into the former home of Da Nang Corner, according to a recent liquor license application. An exact opening date for this location has not yet been announced. Guests can expect Oi Shiba’s signature ramen bowls, including White Shiba, Red Shiba, Black Shiba, and Veggie Shiba, as well as side dishes such as takoyaki, karaage, and Japanese-inspired yubu bites.
Oi Shiba originally opened in Pacific Beach at 909 Grand Avenue, offering a cozy, casual ramen-focused dining experience. The restaurant’s name references the Japanese word for “delicious” and the Shiba Inu dog breed, reflecting the brand’s playful identity. The PB location operated for roughly a year before closing earlier this summer.
The move to Convoy Street positions Oi Shiba within one of San Diego’s most active restaurant corridors. The area has recently seen several new tenants, including Hongdae Dakgalbi, which is opening in the former Nice 2 Meet U Chuan Chuan Hot Pot space next door in early December.
The Oi Shiba menu features ramen bowls with a variety of broths and house-made sauces. Customers can also choose from seasonal or signature beverages, including sparkling yuzu lemonade, peach lemonade, honeydew lemonade, and a selection of hot teas. Many dishes can be prepared with lighter sodium on request, and all menu items are made to order.
Franklin Chou, who leads Oi Shiba, has experience opening and operating multiple San Diego dining concepts, including Steamy Piggy, Formoosa, Flama Llama, Bok Bok Dok, and VietNom. Chou’s approach emphasizes casual, approachable Japanese comfort food, crafted with attention to flavor and presentation.
