Metro Atlanta Buffet Receives Unsatisfactory Health Inspection Score

The GNR Public Health Department cited the Asian buffet for incorrect food holding temperatures and other violations during a recent health inspection.

On November 4, Gohan AYCE Buffet was cited for several health violations, according to an inspection report by the GNR Public Health. The health department issued a low grade following multiple violations, including incorrect food storage practices.

During its recent health inspection by the GNR Public Health, the following violations were noted in the inspection report:

  • Many employees’ drinks were observed to be in unapproved containers on prep counters at Gohan AYCE Buffet.
  • According to the report, the employees at the Asian buffet were using the serve station hand sink for rinsing and filling cups. They were using the hand sink to wash knives.
  • Several containers of raw salmon, white fish, and tuna were stored above imitation crab and cooked clams in the reach-in cooler at the buffet’s sushi area.
  • An in-use sanitizer at Gohan AYCE Buffet’s dish machine was dispensing at a low concentration, the report stated.
  • Food items such as cut lettuce, red potatoes, and shrimp were held at unsafe temperatures, the report said.
  • Several items, such as melons, cheesecake, and sushi rice, which should be under time control, were being used without start/discard times, the report added.
  • Different containers of vacuum-packaged tuna were being thawed while still in their packaging. Plus, raw shrimp at Gohan AYCE Buffet were being thawed in standing water.
  • The report noted that food containers of chili oil, cocktail sauce, dumpling sauces, and peanuts were put on display without proper covers.
  • Many containers of dry goods, oil, and soy sauce were kept on the dry storage floor at the Asian buffet establishment.
  • The report highlighted that employees at the Duluth-based buffet facility were handling food items while still wearing their watches.
  • Many sanitizer buckets at Gohan AYCE Buffet were stored on the floor.
  • Wet wiping cloths were found on surfaces at the buffet establishment.
  • Avocados were being cut with stickers on them, the report noted. Mushrooms were cooked without being properly washed.
  • The most recent inspection report was not posted at the Metro Atlanta facility.

  • Cups were used as scoops in containers of breadcrumbs and vinegar at Gohan AYCE Buffet. An in-use rice scoop was stored in standing water at the buffet facility.
  • Multiple pans with sticker residues were stored as clean at the Metro Atlanta facility.
  • The employee restroom at Gohan AYCE Buffet was not able to self-close.
  • Employee personal items, such as food, keys, phones, and more, were stored on the buffet facility’s prep countertops, among clean dishes in the ware washing area, and among the dry storage goods.

Follow-Up Inspection

 The Asian buffet will now have to undergo a follow-up inspection on or before November 14.

According to the report, the department notified the restaurant that three consecutive unsatisfactory inspections could result in a permit suspension.

The Asian buffet will now have to undergo a follow-up inspection on or before November 14. Another routine inspection will be conducted within 12 months.
