Shadow Grove Brewing, a San Fernando-based brewery known for small-batch and experimental beers, is preparing to open a new brewpub called Where the Creatures Sleep at Shadow Grove in North Hollywood at 5249 Lankershim Boulevard.

The company’s potential second location is set to move into the former home of District Pub, according to a liquor license application filed by co-owners Ron Dembowski and Tom Clark. Although it’s unclear whether a taproom will be included, the duo has applied for a Type 23 Small Beer Manufacturer license, which is typically issued to small breweries that can sell their beer on-site and may serve food. Once open, Where the Creatures Sleep at Shadow Grove will bring Shadow Grove’s evolving beer lineup and immersive storytelling environment to North Hollywood.

Founded by longtime friends Dembowski and Clark, Shadow Grove Brewing combines a passion for beer, darts, and world-building with a commitment to crafting high-quality, innovative beers. The original San Fernando location operates a 2,600-square-foot standalone building with indoor and outdoor seating, offering a design that encourages guests to explore the brewery’s imaginative, narrative-driven concept.

Where the Creatures Sleep at Shadow Grove represents the company’s first expansion outside San Fernando. Permit filings suggest construction and preparations are underway, though no official opening date has been announced. The space is expected to reflect the brand’s signature combination of experimental brewing, rotating seasonal beers, and a community-focused atmosphere.

Shadow Grove’s beer menu features a variety of traditional and experimental styles, including the Hazy IPA “That Which Hides in the Haze,” the West Coast-inspired India Pale Ale “The Broken Wand,” and seasonal or specialty releases such as the blood-red “Bat!” ale and Banana Chocolate Stout CAW!. Most beers are brewed in small batches, allowing the menu to evolve frequently in response to customer feedback and brewing innovations.

The ownership team emphasizes that the brewery is as much about the environment as it is about beer. Visitors at Where the Creatures Sleep at Shadow Grove can expect a creative, immersive space where imaginative storytelling, quality craft beer, and community connection come together.
