About Company

Raising Cane’s journey began with its founder, Todd Graves’ dream of opening an amazing chicken-finger restaurant. According to the company website, his business plan received the lowest grades in classes and was repeatedly rejected by banks, but he continued pursuing his vision.

Graves worked 90 hours a week in an oil refinery in Los Angeles and commercial fishing in Alaska to fund his business. He then began building the first Raising Cane’s at the North Gates of LSU in Baton Rouge with his hard-earned money. It is now called The Mothership.

When he was considering names for the restaurant, Graves decided to honor his beloved yellow Lab, Raising Cane. The dog’s name reflects Graves’ playful spirit and a nod to sugar cane. He opened his first location on August 28, 1996.

The holiday collection combines Raising Cane’s festive spirit with its community-focused mission.
