Southern/Latin concept comes from the owners of Urban Cannibals.

Chef Calavino Donati and artist Doria Roberts, owners of the recently-moved Urban Cannibals, will open Madre + Mason at 560 Dutch Valley Road in the Morningside neighborhood on October 5, according to an email from the restaurant’s public relations firm.

Madre + Mason replaces the now-shuttered Couscous and will be a “Latin Southern fusion” restaurant.

“Madre + Mason’s heart is not just in its food but also in the community created around its food,” according to  the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“Walking into Madre will be like coming home to the smells and sounds of your family’s kitchen with its simple, satisfying and familiar dishes and the organized bustle of a busy stove.”

Donati and Roberts also own Virginia Highland‘s Tipple + Rose Tea Parlor + Apothecary, making Madre + Mason their third concept with restaurant group We Serve People.

Editor’s note: On September 29, WNA was notified by a representative of Madre + Mason that the opening date had been changed from October 1 to October 5. This article now reflects the new opening date.
