It’s happening, folks, Portillo’s is finally coming to Brazos County and is expected to open its first location in the Greater San Antonio area in College Station. This recently filed state permit shows that the new hot dog joint will open at 701 Texas Ave.
What Now San Antonio reached out to Portillo’s Marc Miller to confirm when the location would open, but he did not get back to us by the time of this publication. According to the state filing, construction on the new specialty hot dogs eatery is expected to start next summer and is slated to wrap up by mid-January in 2027. If all goes well, Portillo’s could be slinging hot dogs out of its new Texas Ave. location by February 2027, just in time to get your love a footlong treat.
Portillo’s has expanded rapidly in Texas, with early locations like the one in The Colony becoming some of its highest-performing restaurants. There are now at least 11 Portillo’s restaurants in the Lone Star State, with more, like the new location set to debut in Brazos County, in development.
Portillo’s was founded in 1963 in Villa Park, Illinois. Dick Portillo started with a single hot dog stand called “The Dog House” before rebranding and renaming his climbing to fame hot dog chain into Portillo’s, the hot dog food chain’s website reads. Today, there are more than 75 locations in ten states, with plans to open more than 900 locations in the coming years.
The aggressive expansion led to College Station, where Portillo’s hot dogs will finally be introduced to the Brazos County community.
Dubbed “unrivaled Chicago street food,” Portillo’s offers hot dogs, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and a host of sides to accompany any of those you’d like to chow down on. Portillo’s even has a pasta dish, desserts, and shakes.
Keep your eyes peeled for more details about the new Portillo’s coming to 701 Texas Ave. in February 2027.
