Malone’s, a new concept from Eric Passetti, is set to take over the space at 216 Townsend Street in San Francisco.

The new concept will move into the former home of District San Francisco, which closed after 18 years in business. Eric Passetti recently submitted a liquor license application for the new spot, though the exact opening date has not yet been announced. District San Francisco’s closure, confirmed through a farewell message on its website, marks the end of its long run at this location, though the brand still operates in Oakland and San Jose. Passetti’s new venture will bring a fresh concept to the area, continuing his track record of successful bar openings throughout the Bay Area.

Passetti, known for his ownership of Café Terminus, House of Shields, Natoma Cabana, and the now-closed Trocadero Club, is a prominent figure in San Francisco’s nightlife scene. His most recent venture, Yerba Buena, opened in 2023 in the East Cut neighborhood, and he has also contributed to the success of Pie Punks, a nearby pizza joint.

As with his other ventures, Passetti’s new spot will likely focus on providing a welcoming environment for locals and visitors alike. Although specific details about the menu and concept are not yet available, his history of curating unique bar experiences suggests that Malone’s will continue his tradition of innovative and approachable nightlife.

San Francisco’s SoMa district continues to evolve as a nightlife hub, with new and creative concepts emerging to complement its vibrant atmosphere. Malone’s is expected to bring fresh energy to this neighborhood, reinforcing the city’s reputation for unique and diverse drinking spots.
