A local wine bar is targeting Davidson for expansion to a second location. Frenchy’s Sip and Shop, which opened in South End in 2023, has announced plans to bring Frenchy’s La Cave to 201 State St. Owner Chris Sarette told What Now Charlotte that the team is hoping to open the new spot in late 2026.
Sarette and the team were not initially planning to expand to a second location. However, when the contractors who helped bring the first Frenchy’s location to life connected them with the property owner of the new construction in Davidson, a deal fell into place.
The Davidson space will be about 1,000 square feet and will stay true to the Frenchy’s mission of increasing wine education and accessibility. However, it will feature its own design elements.
“Frenchy’s South End is a little bit of Paris now,” Sarette said. “[Through the Davidson location], I want to bring to life the idea of Paris then — a little bit of older comfort. A library of wine is one of the key design aspirations that we had going into it.”
To convey this “Paris then” atmosphere, the team is incorporating dark woods, tiles and cozy environments. The team has partnered with Studio Works for the design, and construction is still to come on the space.
The menu will feature plenty of items from the South End location but will have an expanded cellar program. It will also offer Frenchy’s beer options.
“It truly is a privilege to bring a second shop in a community like Davidson, so we’re really excited to bring this to life,” Sarette said.
