Sprinkles Cupcakes, a well-known cupcake chain, has closed all of its locations. Former owner Candace Nelson confirmed the closures in a social media post. The bakery chain went viral on social media for its appealing presentation and variety of flavors.
Sprinkles Cupcakes Closed After Almost 20 Years
Sprinkles Cupcakes, a gourmet cupcake chain, was founded by pastry chef Candace Nelson in 2005. The brand gained popularity with the introduction of the world’s first ‘Cupcake ATM’.
The menu features minimalistic and aesthetically pleasing cupcakes, which are made with premium ingredients. Some crowd-favorite items include Red Velvet, Dark Chocolate, Sprinkles, Strawberry, and Salt Carmel cupcakes.
Through a social media post, Nelson confirmed that Sprinkles Cupcakes has shut down all of its locations on December 31, 2025. “Today is Sprinkles’ final day,” said Nelson.
The company has not issued a formal statement. However, the Sprinkles website shows no products available for purchase, indicating that the brand has ceased operations

Several community members and loyal customers of the cupcake chain shared heartfelt messages and wrote cherished memories on social media.
Founder Reflects on the Brand’s Legacy
In the post, Nelson highlighted that she had sold the brand in 2012, and said, “I sold Sprinkles in 2012 and have no ownership or operational involvement in the company.”

Furthermore, she expressed concern over the abrupt closure and for its employees. She stated, “Still, it’s surreal to see this chapter come to a close – and it’s not how I imagined the story would unfold. Today, my heart is with the Sprinkles employees.”
“I’m deeply grateful to the fans, customers, and community who showed up, celebrated with us, and made Sprinkles part of their traditions – and to the team who made it all happen. I’ll always be proud of what we built,” added Nelson.
Nelson described the brand’s origin as ‘a KitchenAid mixer and a big idea’. The store began as a single bakery and, over the years, grew into a national chain.
The sudden closure has left many dessert fans disappointed. The cupcake chain revolutionized dessert culture with aesthetics and a ‘Cupcake ATM’.
