Alexander Terrell is carrying on the legacy of La Finca, a brand that his mother Naomi Villanueva launched in 2015. Following her retirement, Terrell will now open La Finca Mexican Kitchen & Tequilas at the Shoppes at the Birches in Carrollton at 2235 Maple Street, Suite A.
The brand formerly had a location along Bankhead Highway, which closed earlier this year to pivot to the forthcoming location. The spot will offer modern Mexican cuisine, offering many of the original menu items from La Finca as well as offerings such as handmade tortillas, tortas, pastas and premium tequilas. On weekends, La Finca will offer Mexican breakfast.
“I noticed that when I go to Atlanta, there are these really, really nice, authentic spots that stray away from the traditional Tex-Mex style that you usually see in other places,” Terrell told What Now Atlanta. “I thought it would be really cool to have something like that on this side of town in West Georgia, so that people wouldn’t have to travel that far to reach something like that.”
The design of the 2,450-square-foot space will be inspired by Michoacán, Mexico — Villanueva’s birthplace. Key elements include an indoor mural and plenty of greenery throughout the space. The restaurant will seat 92 people inside and about 20 outside.
Terrell said they are still waiting on their liquor license and he hopes to open around the end of January. The hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Eventually, Terrell hopes to expand the restaurant into the suite next door in about a year or so to add another 600-700 square feet of seating capacity.
