After more than a year of waiting, 2026 may turn out to be the year DFW foodies finally say “Kon’nichiwa” to what promises to be an exciting new culinary endeavor. Docent Steak & Lounge, a new Japanese steakhouse from Harwood Hospitality, is one of the restaurant projects inspiring the greatest hunger in locals this year, reports Dallas Observer.
The upscale restaurant will be opening at 2801 North Harwood Street as part of Harwood No. 14. Docent will occupy two floors and will submerge guests deep into Samurai culture, displaying a multitude of art, armor, and artifacts.
While ambiance and decor are, of course, important for a satisfying night out, the cuisine must be the star at any restaurant, and Docent promises that guests won’t be disappointed. The website explains what’s in store, saying: “The menu will feature HWD beef, Harwood’s exclusive prime-graded Akaushi wagyu cattle, as well as an extensive selection of Kobe beef.”
Harwood Hospitality intends to honor the history of Feudal Japan without sacrificing any Dallas flavor. The group’s Vice President of Culinary, Taylor Kearney, previously explained: “Acknowledging Texas’ deep-rooted passion for beef, Docent will honor tradition by presenting iconic Texas-style cuts, like a 40 oz. long bone cowboy ribeye, alongside an expansive selection of exquisite seafood and diverse offerings to satisfy every palate.”
It’s not clear yet precisely when Docent will be customer-ready; prospective opening dates have changed a few times already. Initially Hardwood anticipated opening the restaurant in summer of 2024. The company website currently says that Docent will be opening in 2025-while that is clearly off the table, it does suggest that guest may finally get to sample its fare in 2026.
