Walmart is rolling out a new AI-powered shopping feature for U.S. customers as part of a collaboration with Google. The retail giant has partnered with Google to bring Walmart and Sam’s Club shopping directly into Google’s Gemini AI platform.
Walmart and Google Unite for Innovative Shopping Experience
In a January 11 announcement, Walmart said the partnership aims to make shopping more intuitive by allowing customers to browse, purchase, and manage orders directly through Gemini.
The latest experience will be accessible through AI-driven Gemini via the Universal Commerce Protocol. This AI assistant will allow shoppers to search for Walmart products, place orders, track deliveries, and manage returns.
Product Availability and Recommendations
With Walmart’s latest collaboration with Google, shoppers can find relevant Walmart products, both online and in-store, directly through Gemini. This includes seasonal releases, such as spring camping equipment.
Further conversational interactions will allow Gemini to present shoppers with a range of relevant product options suited to their needs.
Personalized Shopping Journey
The AI-powered experience is designed to personalize shopping by tailoring product suggestions to each customer. Once customers link their accounts, the retail brand will suggest complementary products based on their past purchases, whether online or in-store.
The system will also factor in items already in a shopper’s cart and automatically apply Walmart membership benefits.
Rapid Delivery Options
Walmart’s AI-powered shopping experience will enable customers and members to get in-store and club items delivered based on their preferences. This includes hundreds of thousands of locally curated items that can be delivered in under three hours, and in some cases as fast as 30 minutes.
Leadership Insight
John Furner, President and CEO of Walmart U.S. and incoming CEO of Walmart Inc., said the shift from traditional search to AI-led commerce marks a major evolution in retail.
“We want to help customers get what they need and want, when and where they want it. Partnering with Google to bring the Walmart experience directly into Gemini is another step toward creating seamless shopping experiences for customers and members that are more intuitive and personal than ever before,” said John Furner.
“AI can improve every step of the consumer journey, from discovery to delivery. Walmart is an innovator in retail, and we are excited to partner with them on a new open standard to make agentic commerce a reality. Customers will soon be able to experience everything they love about Walmart directly in the Gemini app,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet.
As of now, the latest AI-driven experience of Gemini will first launch directly within Gemini in the U.S. The feature is launching first in the U.S., with international expansion planned at a later date.
Walmart serves roughly 270 million customers and members each week across more than 10,750 stores and e-commerce platforms in 19 countries. The people-led, tech-supported retailer reported revenue of $681 billion in fiscal year 2025. Currently, Walmart employs around 2.1 million associates globally.
The Gemini integration highlights Walmart’s growing investment in AI-driven tools to simplify how U.S. shoppers discover and purchase everyday essentials.
