Piggly Wiggly Food for Less is bringing two locations to Middle Georgia as a part of a six-store chain of openings from operator McDaniel Family Investments. The stores will open in Sandersville and Eastman, respectively, in February, co-owner Cody McDaniel told What Now Atlanta.
McDaniel Family Investments purchased both stores from Southeastern Grocers, who shuttered more than 30 Winn-Dixie and Harveys stores across five states last year. The store in Sandersville is located at 306 S. Harris St. and the Eastman location will be at 6327 Oak St.
The two stores will be the final ones to open in the six-store rollout, following new Piggly Wiggly Food for Less locations in Havana, Fla., Wetumpka, Ala. and Montgomery, Ala. The Havana and Wetumpka locations are already open and the Montgomery location will open next week.
Piggly Wiggly locations offer fresh produce, meats, seafood, deli items, prepared meals and grocery items. McDaniel said their focus is on bringing community-oriented stores with low prices, high quality and good service.
“We compete really well with big-box retailers,” McDaniel said. “We’re actually 20-30% cheaper than a lot of our competitors. We have good value but we don’t trade down on quality.”
They are hoping to get involved in the communities and bring jobs to the areas where the stores are opening.
“We are taking opportunities to open stores in underserved areas,” McDaniel said. “That’s our focus.”
McDaniel Family Investment already operates additional stores in Florida and Georgia.
