A new community gathering spot is expected to open in Plaza Midwood this spring at 1306 Central Ave. La Vecina will offer “inspired plates” and “handcrafted cocktails,” according to the website.

Bocao Sushi owners Carolos Nunez and Victor Abad are partnering with Moo & Brew’s Ken Thomas, according to reporting by Charlotte Business Journal. Plans include plenty of patio space and a grab-and-go taco window in the 600-square-foot building.

The Instagram page for La Vecina teases “a fusion of bold flavors, international inspiration and unexpected connection.” The goal is to preserve the space for community-building amid a changing neighborhood.

“Rooted in the heart of Plaza Midwood, La Vecina was created as a neighborhood refuge in a city changing at record speed. Surrounded by rapid development and rising prices, the restaurant stands as a reminder that some places are meant to stay grounded,” states a recent Instagram post. “With a freight train passing just behind the building and a commitment from ownership to preserve the plaza as a local gathering space, La Vecina holds space for stories, conversations, and a version of Charlotte that still values staying power over speed.”
