Dana Dumas, the founder and CEO of SugarJam The Southern Kitchen, is excited to unveil her newest culinary venture: Soul Fire Tacos. Under the portfolio of Dumas’ restaurant group, SJ Concepts, LLC., Soul Fire Tacos is a bold, culture-driven taco house set to open on Feb. 21 in the Scottsdale Airpark.

Located a few doors down from SugarJam The Southern Kitchen at N. Hayden Road. and N. 82nd St., Soul Fire Tacos offers a fusionary fast-casual dining experience packed with flavor and heart. Soulful bliss collides with Latin spice in this new taco spot where Southern meets Southwest, celebrating the shared roots, joy, and energy of two rich cultures.

“Black and Brown cultures have always had synergy,” said Dumas in a statement. “From our family traditions to our music and our cuisines, bringing the two together was a no-brainer. In a world where we are more divided than ever, I want to show the fire that happens when we come together. It is an honor to introduce Soul Fire Tacos to the Arizona community.”

Soul Fire Tacos offers a menu that brings together soulful favorites and Latin-inspired dishes, such as beer-battered catfish tacos, short rib birria tacos, crispy Japanese panko shrimp, and tequila lime wings. Their standout item, the Soul Roll, features a combination of golden-fried mac and cheese, candied yams, and greens. Diners will also find daily rotating specials.

At the heart of the kitchen is Chef Johnnie Dixon, a former NFL wide receiver whose story brings heart, hustle, and authenticity to the brand. Dixon is a former Ohio State national champion receiver from the sun-kissed shores of Florida, where his passion for performance was first forged. He knows the thrill of roaring stadiums and the quiet reckoning that follows; this rhythm of resilience now pulses through every dish he creates. Trading cleats for culinary tools, Dixon brings the same intensity, discipline, and soul to the kitchen that once defined his game.

“I always preach about being different and being more viewed as more than just an athlete,” said Dixon. “When Dana asked me to be a part of Soul Fire Tacos, I couldn’t resist. I enjoy seeing people up when they eat something I made, and I hope to bring many smiles to the Arizona community.”

Soul Fire Tacos will celebrate its grand opening on Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. Starting on Feb. 21, diners can enjoy one free chicken or carnitas taco, with the purchase of any taco, burrito, or bowl.

The 900-square-foot space will accommodate up to 24 diners inside. Located at 15111 N. Hayden Rd, Suite 120, Soul Fire Tacos will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For updates, menu reveals, and behind-the-scenes moments, follow @SoulFireTacos on Instagram and TikTok or visit soulfiretacos.com.
