Popeyes is coming to Hillcroft Ave. According to a recently filed permit, the new Popeyes spot will open at 2820 Hillcroft Ave.

The permit also details that construction on the new Popeyes quick-service eatery is slated to begin in May of this year and is expected to be completed by February 2027. If all goes well, the Porter community could have their “Chicken on the Run” in the new year.

The region is no stranger to the wildly popular Louisiana fried chicken brand. Texas has the highest concentration of Popeyes restaurants in the United States. As of the end of last year, there were 70 Popeyes locations in Houston, making it the city with the highest number of Popeyes restaurants in the country, and the brand continues to expand its footprint.

The brand was founded by Al Copeland in Arabi, Louisiana, in the early 70s. The brand grew rapidly through franchising and saw an even bigger boom when Popeyes introduced its iconic biscuits in 1983. There are now 4,000 restaurants worldwide.

“Popeyes® is not like most fast food chains. With freshly prepared food and a recipe that’s remained unchanged for nearly 50 years,” the Popeyes website reads.

Known for its crispy and well-seasoned fried chicken, the brand has continued its claim to fame through the recent success of its spicy fried chicken sandwich. The viral sensation was a teachable moment for the fast-food industry and showed the tenacity of simplicity and tradition.

Popeyes is expected to open one of its newest Texas locations at 2820 Hillcroft Ave in early 2027.
