During an inspection on February 9, the Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale County Health Departments flagged Tony’s Sports Grill for several health code violations. The restaurant ended up receiving a low score of 60 U as a result.
Tony’s Sports Grill

A neighborhood sports bar, Tony’s Sports Grill, was found to be non-compliant with food safety codes. The violations were:
- The person in charge was observed not practicing active managerial control, with multiple risk factor violations contributing to an unsatisfactory score.
- The facility did not have written procedures in place for responding to vomiting or diarrheal events. As a corrective action, procedures were provided.
- The report noted the in-use dish machine was dispensing chlorine sanitizer at a concentration below the required 50–100 ppm. The dish machine was primed to dispense sanitizer at the proper level.
- Multiple times/temperature control for safety foods was being held above 41°F, as documented in the temperature log. The affected items were discarded.
- Several containers of rice, opened containers of cheese and pepperoni, and mashed potatoes were held for longer than seven days. Items were discarded.
- Sanitizer containers with chlorine concentrations exceeding permitted limits. The sanitizing solutions were remade.
- Several chemical spray bottles were seen kept without proper labeling. The containers were labeled as a corrective action, the report mentioned.

- Fish containers were thawing while still in reduced-oxygen packaging, marking a second consecutive violation. The fish was discarded.
- Avocados were kept stored, washed with produce stickers still attached, the report said. The avocados were rewashed, and the stickers were removed.
- In-use knives were seen stored in water below 135°F, marking a second consecutive violation. The knives were cleaned, sanitized, and stored in water maintained above 135°F.
- The main prep cooler was not maintaining food at 41°F or below. The affected time/temperature control foods were discarded, and the cooler is expected to be repaired or replaced before February 19, 2026.
- The report identified multiple pans stored as clean but with sticker residue present. It was the second consecutive violation.

Follow-up Inspection

As per the report, the restaurant will undergo a follow-up inspection on or before February 19. It is expected to correct all the violations before the reinspection to avoid permit suspension.
