80-Unit Affordable Housing Community for Seniors Coming to Decatur

An affordable housing project for seniors in the Decatur area has reached completion and will open soon with a grand celebration.

A new affordable housing community for seniors is soon to open in Decatur. The community is supported by funding from multiple partners, and construction was completed in June 2025. It is the Phase II of the Decatur East development and offers convenience to its residents.

The Link at Columbia Senior Residences, an 80-unit affordable housing community for seniors aged 62 and older,  is to open in Decatur on February 12. The transit-oriented development reflects the successful completion of Phase II of the Decatur East development. To celebrate the occasion of its opening, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held.

The Link at Columbia Senior Residences features a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments that come with modern amenities. Construction began in January 2024 and was completed in June 2025. The project received Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and is supported by funding from multiple partners.

The community comprises 88% LIHTC units and includes Project-Based Voucher Assistance for 24 LIHTC units. These are at both 30% and 50% AMI levels. 29 units are designated HOME units, and 10 units are unrestricted market-rate units.

Key Features and Amenities

The Link at Columbia Senior Residences comprises 80 apartment homes for seniors 62+. The development offers new, modern, maintenance-free apartment homes. The amenities include a fitness center, community room, business center, and outdoor courtyard space.

It offers full pedestrian access to the Avondale MARTA station and an easy connection to the East Decatur Greenway and the Stone Mountain Trail. It is an energy-efficient construction with National Green Building Standards certification. It is located in close proximity to downtown Decatur shops, restaurants, and services.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony to Mark Grand Opening

On Thursday, February 12, a grand opening ceremony will be held to celebrate the occasion. It will be attended by several dignitaries. It includes Maureen Freehill, Deputy Commissioner for Housing Assistance & Development, Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

Larry Padilla, CEO of Decatur Housing, and Robert Fink, Chief Development Officer of Columbia Residential, will also attend the event. Tony Powers, Mayor of the City of Decatur, and Jacob Vallo, Chief Development Officer of DeKalb County, are also among the dignitaries attending the event.

The Link at Columbia Senior Residences adds a meaningful resource for Decatur’s senior community. The completion of Phase II also reflects the continued investment in accessible housing, while the opening event marks a milestone for the project’s partners.
