Popular Calabasas spot Cafecito is adding a second location in the area. “Coming soon” signage is up at 5639 Kanan Road at Agoura Meadows Shopping Center, according to a Facebook announcement from Cafecito this month.
Cafecito originated in Chicago and operates four locations there. The spot is known for its Cuban-inspired dishes, including pressed sandwiches and entrees such as Cafechera (Cuban Coffee rubbed steak and shrimp) and Tilapia Criolla (grilled tilapia with salsa criolla). There are also plenty of vegan options.
The drink menu offers Cuban coffee, including Cafecito (Cuban espresso with a teaspoon of sugar) and Cortadito (Cafecito combined with a tablespoon or two of hot milk). There are also cocktails, beer and wine.
Philip Ghantous is behind the brand, opening his first Chicago-area cafe in 2008. What Now Los Angeles has reached out to Ghantous for additional details on the forthcoming opening and timeline.
