Hawaiian Bros is undergoing a major expansion with plans to open 18 locations throughout San Antonio, which currently has just two. According to a recently filed permit, a Hawaiian Bros location is planned for The Merc at 5746 UTSA Blvd.

The permit details that construction is expected to start in mid-July and wrap up before the end of November. If all goes well, we can expect the new Hawaiian Bros on San Antonio’s Northwest Side to open before the end of the year.

This will be the third location in San Antonio.

The brand was founded in Missouri in 2018 by brothers Cameron and Tyler McNie. There are now more than 70 Hawaiian Bros locations across 16 states, with a significant number in Arizona, Missouri, and Texas. There are almost 25 locations in Texas.

At the helm of the new location coming to San Antonio is franchisee Rock HawaiianWhat Now San Antonio briefly spoke with Matt Parmerlee of Rock Strategic, who confirmed the opening.

“UTSA is a growing campus, and the area around it has great development. We feel the location is a great fit for our growth,” Parmerlee said.

“Aside from our island-inspired cuisine and vibes. We have had great partnerships in our communities already and hope to grow with the right partnerships for this store. Our main operator has lived in the San Antonio metro area for a long time and knows the city well.”

Hawaiian Bros Island Grill serves authentic Hawaiian plate lunches. The fast-casual chain specializes in simple, high-quality, island-inspired dishes like Huli Huli Chicken and Kalua Pork. Sides include the traditional dishes like rice and macaroni salad.

“We have no freezers, no fryers, and no microwaves,” Parmerlee said.

“Our chicken or pork plate lunches served with macaroni salad are a great go-to. Our Dole Pineapple Soft Serve is a great dairy-free, gluten-free treat, especially for a hot San Antonio day.”

The island spirit is infused in the food and the brand’s atmosphere.

“At Hawaiian Bros, we’re inspired every day to spread the Aloha Spirit. To show kindness and respect, and to treat everyone as ’ohana, like family, in everything we do,” the Hawaiian Bros website reads.

“Each of our meals is thoughtfully prepared with generous portions of fresh, quality ingredients, with service that’s not only fast, but also friendly and welcoming. And we never use freezers, fryers, or microwaves.”

The new San Antonio Hawaiian Bros is anticipated to open in The Merc at 5746 UTSA Blvd this winter.
“We are excited to bring our growing restaurant chain to the UTSA community,” Parmerlee said.
“We plan on developing multiple stores in the San Antonio area and in Las Vegas. We are already working on growing along Austin Hwy. and in Balcones Heights.”
