“], owner of Istanblue, will be opening a Mexican Restaurant next door in the former space of Buckhead Tavern at 264 Pharr Road.

The space is sized at 3,903 square feet and cost of construction will total to $233,000, according to a permit filed with City of Atlanta.

Robert McKerrow of R*Development told What Now Atlanta (WNA) on Monday that the new restaurant will have a “fun, cool West Coast vibe” in a casual and comfortable setting. The interior will feature lots of reclaimed materials.

The menu will include craft cocktails and margaritas.

There are currently no other Mexican restaurants on Pharr Road, with the closest being Red Pepper Taqueria on Piedmont.

  • I find it interesting that your site (and others) have kept it relatively QUIET about the closing of Buckhead Tavern..apparently, afraid of offending the Espositio family???

  • Buckhead Tavern closed? Classic. Why do people open places with 100% chance of closure. That and what were the 2 places in Atrium apts caddy corner from the Texaco that both closed within months. So obvious it was going to close that I think the owners/investors should have just donated half that amount to charity and saved the other half for groceries.

  • What a joke. A mexican restaurant opened by a non-mexican in a location doomed for failure. Parking is terrible there, and the hookah bar’s crowd next door chased Buckhead Tavern’s few customers away. Buckhead Tavern never adopted a workable identity which made it doomed from the start. Poor management, I guess.
This planned new place will surely be way overpriced. Plenty of good authentic Mexican within a few miles, such as Jalisco, El Azteca, and Bartaco.
