Carnitas Carnitas Zamora, an Oakland-based food truck specializing in traditional Michoacán-style pork, is getting ready to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant in East Oakland at 6633 Bancroft Avenue.
The new restaurant will move into the former home of Mi Zacatecas and is set to open in April 2026, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The business is owned by Alejandro Rocha, who founded Carnitas Carnitas Zamora in 2022 to bring the confit-style pork of his hometown, Zamora, Michoacán, to the Bay Area. Rocha tells Whatnow San Francisco that the restaurant will have a soft opening in late April with a grand opening planned for May 1.
Customers can expect a menu featuring maciza, ribs, skin, and buche, served by the pound or in tacos with handmade corn tortillas, along with salsas and pickled jalapeños from a condiment bar. New offerings at the restaurant will include carne asada, al pastor pork, burritos, and tortas.
Carnitas Carnitas Zamora launched as a food truck, appearing weekly on Sundays, and quickly gained a following for selling 120 pounds of pork in under three hours on its first day. Its popularity grew through social media orders and coverage by local food influencers. The brand has also been featured on the San Francisco Chronicle’s Top Tacos and Top Food Trucks lists.
The East Oakland location will operate Tuesday through Saturday and accommodate roughly 30 diners inside, with additional outdoor seating. The food truck will continue to appear on Sundays at 1970 Seminary Avenue, maintaining its presence in the community while expanding to a full-service restaurant.
The menu emphasizes traditional preparation, with pork braised in lard and chopped with a cleaver, staying true to Rocha’s vision of authentic Michoacán carnitas. Handmade tortillas, a variety of meats, and new options such as tortas and burritos will expand the offerings for customers seeking a sit-down experience.
This move reflects Rocha’s ongoing commitment to East Oakland, providing a permanent space for his growing customer base and elevating the food truck’s acclaimed offerings. The combination of dine-in and continued food truck service allows the brand to serve both casual and regular patrons in multiple formats.
