A Canada-based hot pot concept is preparing to make its U.S. debut in Greater Boston.
Town officials recently approved plans for Soup Zen Hot Pot to open at 75 Middlesex Turnpike, Unit 1079C, in the Burlington Mall. According to the Daily Times Chronicle, the approval came through the Minor Engineering Change (MEC) process, allowing the project to move forward with updated site and design elements.
Those updates include refinements to exterior features like landscaping and planter boxes, as well as revised elevations and interior design details for the restaurant space.
Currently operating in Montreal, Quebec, Soup Zen specializes in hot pot, an interactive dining style where guests select ingredients like meats, seafood, vegetables, noodles, and dumplings to be cooked in a simmering broth. Notably, the entire menu is pork-free and Halal-friendly, making it accessible to a broader range of diners.
Unlike traditional DIY hot pot, Soup Zen takes a more hands-off approach for guests. “You have the freedom to choose your favorite menu items, ensuring that your dietary preferences are met,” a company representative explained. “You can then sit back and enjoy the deliciously cooked food prepared by our top-notch chefs, who bring their unparalleled culinary expertise to every dish, ensuring a high-quality dining experience.”
The menu draws from a wide range of contemporary Asian culinary influences, including Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and Thailand, while emphasizing freshness and balance. Diners can choose from more than 100 ingredients and 10 soup bases, building a meal tailored to their unique preferences.
Flexibility is another cornerstone of the concept. Guests can opt for a fixed-price model featuring premium selections or a pay-by-weight system for a more customized approach. The restaurant will also feature a sauce bar with more than 10 house-made options, along with complimentary ice cream to sweeten the experience.
