New Parkway Theater, a community-centered cinema and cafe concept, is looking to open a new location in the Bay Area in a yet-to-be-determined space between 10,000 and 18,000 square feet.
The company’s new location is not tied to a confirmed address or former tenant, as the search is still ongoing, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. The theater recently raised about $130,000 through a crowdfunding campaign. When the team finds a new home for a second location, customers can expect the same mix of film screenings, food service, and community-driven programming.
Founded in Oakland, New Parkway Theater has built a following for its nontraditional moviegoing experience that blends cinema with a casual dining environment. The current Uptown location features couches and lounge-style seating instead of standard theater chairs, and food and drinks are served during screenings. Programming includes new releases, cult classics, and themed events designed to encourage interaction among attendees.
The expansion effort is being driven in part by financial pressures that have impacted the business since the pandemic. According to its crowdfunding campaign, the theater has faced declining activity and reduced reserves, prompting a push to rebuild its foundation heading into 2026. Funds raised are being used for building upgrades, ADA improvements, backup power systems, and restoring financial stability.
The new location is expected to include three to four screening rooms, along with a cafe, kitchen, and shared community areas. Ownership has indicated a preference for walkable neighborhoods with access to parking and public transit, as well as for areas considered safe. The company has also turned to social media to gather suggestions from the public as it evaluates potential sites.
New Parkway Theater’s menu goes beyond traditional concessions, offering diner-style comfort food such as burgers, pizza, sandwiches, and salads, along with in-house-prepared appetizers and desserts. The cafe also serves rotating selections of local beer, wine, and cider, with an emphasis on accommodating vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets while maintaining a focused menu.
