Durham School Services announced the layoff of 107 employees in the St. Louis metropolitan area. The transportation company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice with the state on April 9, 2026.
Durham School Services to Cut Jobs After Contract Loss
According to the WARN filing by Durham School Services with the Missouri Office of Workforce Development, employees will be impacted at the House Springs facility in Jefferson County. The layoffs are expected to take place on June 5, 2026.
The company provides school transportation services to the Northwest R-1 School District. In the filing, the company stated the loss of the local school transportation contract as the reason for mass layoffs.
As part of its work with school districts across the U.S., Durham School Services has faced contract losses in the past, resulting in job cuts. Transition to different service providers is usually the major contributor to contract loss in the transport industry.
Some layoffs may be delayed as employees could be reassigned to summer routes, as reported by the St. Louis Business Journal.
