Coastal Seafoods is preparing to permanently close the doors of its Snelling Avenue S, St. Paul. The restaurant will serve its final meal on April 11, marking the end of its three-year run. In a social media post, the restaurant team extended an invitation to the community to stop by before closing.
Local Favorite Coastal Seafoods to Close After Three Years
A premium fish retail store and restaurant, Coastal Seafoods, is bidding farewell to the St. Paul community. The restaurant is designed in a dive-bar style and is known for serving fresh and delicious seafood dishes in a casual indoor setting.
The restaurant team shared the closure news on social media and wrote, “After three wonderful years of serving the St. Paul community, we’ve made the bittersweet decision to close this location.”
According to a Bring Me The News, the closure comes less than three years after the business relocated to a larger space on Snelling Avenue.
“Our last day of service will be April 11th, and we’d truly love to see you before then,” added the team.
Despite its relatively brief run, the restaurant developed a loyal customer base. As the restaurant announced its closure, several fans on social media expressed their grief.
“We are so sad about this!!! Nothing made my husband happier than that Friday educator discount on such quality fish!” shared one of the loyal fans.

Company Background
Suzanne Weinstein founded Coastal Seafoods in 1981. She left her banking job and started a seafood business with a small loan and a used van. Over the years, her business grew, and she began selling wholesale seafood in Minneapolis.
In 1985, Weinstein opened her first retail store in the Seward neighborhood. Following the success of the first, she opened her second store in St. Paul in 1992.
In 2016, Chicago’s Fortune Fish & Gourmet acquired Coastal Seafoods. The company then expanded its presence in the Midwest. The company moved from its original Minneapolis location to a much larger space across the street in 2020.
“A similar expansion followed in St. Paul, where Coastal Seafoods moved a short distance down Snelling Avenue and reopened in late 2023,” said the report.
As the St. Paul location winds down, the team is directing customers to its Minneapolis store.
