Shorebird Bakery, formerly known as Woodblock Bakery, is preparing to move to a brand new home on May 1.
“We’re so happy to be bringing our small batch baked goods to Northeast Portland,” says the Shorebird Bakery website. “Pesto and cinnamon rolls, five kinds of cookies, date bread, scones, brand muffins, and a flourless chocolate torte—our hope is that you’ll find something you love.”
News of the move broke this week, when Bridgetown Bites published coverage on the rebrand and Shorebird’s plans for opening.
“Shorebird will be at Woodblock Chocolate’s manufactory on NE 17th Avenue until their final day of service on Thursday, April 23,” the coverage says. “That gives them about a week to transition over to NE 42nd Avenue. Be sure to take advantage of these next couple of weeks while they are in Irvington, where you can easily pick up some of the great chocolates that Woodblock creates, along with your tasty Shorebird baked goods.”
“Thank you to all of our well-wishers, we found a new space!” said Shorebird Bakery in a Facebook post published this week. “Starting Friday May 1, we’ll be taking up residence at the Oakshire building on NE 42nd and Alberta. This location has the space and the equipment necessary for us to take the next steps in the evolution of this little bakery.”
Another Instagram post from explained the meaning of the name:
“‘Shorebird’ is structurally an homage to our cousin bakeries, Sea Wolf and Oxbow: a little animal + a little water = a name for a little bakery. It is philosophically a nod to all the delightful little birds that scamper and wade and dabble at the water’s edge, going busily about their business and bringing small joys to their audience.”
