With the new Amtrak line making the Mississippi Gulf Coast more accessible than ever, more new restaurant concepts appear to be embracing the idea of being a destination for visitors. Case in point: A new combination concept called Jobu Tiki & Sushi Bar is set to bring an island-inspired escape to Ocean Springs, Miss. According to NOLA.com, the menu will center on Asian-inspired rolled sushi and hibachi, featuring a mix of local and international seafood. As the evening progresses, the restaurant will transition into an adult-friendly vibe with a dedicated late-night sushi menu.
The decor and drink program are heavily influenced by the owners’ love of tiki and favorite films. In fact, the restaurant’s name, Jobu, is a tribute to the idol in the movie Major League. As with most tiki bars, guests can sip on themed cocktails, a large selection of rum, and sake. The immersive interior will feature a live music stage designed to look like a dock, in keeping with the tropical theme. The exterior will feature a newly-built deck with games and a service bar. An opening date has not been announced, and What Now New Orleans has reached out for more information.
