A Hollywood-based store that specializes in curated spirits, wines and beers will be expanding this summer. Sipsy is taking over wine shop Domaine LA at 6801 Melrose Ave., Sipsy co-founder Hala Shamas told What Now Los Angeles. Shamas plans to open Sipsy in the 2,500-square-foot space in early July.
Sipsy, which launched as a brand in 2019 and has a location in Hollywood, has been looking to expand in the L.A. area for some time. It also acts as an alcohol delivery service, shipping alcohol across the Los Angeles area with low delivery fees. The Melrose location will widen their physical footprint in the city.
The forthcoming shop will feature a curated selection of spirits and natural wines, as well as a tasting area for beer, wine and spirits.
“We are very discovery-forward,” Shamas said. “It’s more about the experience when someone walks into Sipsy. We’re not a corner store. We’re not a large Bevmo or Total Wine. It’s very curated and it feels open, easy to navigate and easy to discover new products.”
The team is also looking to roll out more event programming at the new store to encourage product discovery and support of small-batch local producers.
The team is looking to expand further in the Los Angeles market, with another location expected to open by the end of the year. Expect more details on that spot in the coming months.
“We’re always looking for new opportunities,” Shamas said. “Real estate in L.A. is pretty tough, but when we find the right opportunities, we jump in.”
