Concept sells works by the school’s students, faculty and alumni.

The Savannah College of Art and Design is preparing to demolish the school’s Spring House complex to rebuild the dormitories from the ground up.

The 500 room student housing development plans to include a bookstore as well as a ShopSCAD location, according to the Midtown Alliance Development Tour’s webpage.

This will be the third outpost for the concept, the first being located in Savannah and another having opened in 2014 in Lacoste, France.

ShopSCAD stores sell fine art, home goods, jewelry, handbags, accessories and other works made by SCAD students, alumni and faculty.

In the past, the Atlanta campus has featured a ShopSCAD pop-up shop inside an airstream in front of its main building at 1600 Peachtree.

The new Spring House development is not typical of the school, which has an excellent record in adaptive reuse of buildings including several historic homes such as Ivy Hall, a parking deck, a former department store and even a historic Provençal farm.
