A new restaurant and wine bar is slated to open at multi-use development El Encanto on Catalina Island. Encanto Cafe and Wine Bar will open at 101 Marilla Ave. in Avalon. Owner Steven Hoefs told What Now Los Angeles that they are aiming for a July opening.
Hoefs operates Catalina Entertainment, which operates other spots on the island, including five retail shops, four restaurants and a golf course. The cafe and wine bar are part of a larger destination, which will feature a boutique, spa, salon and events space.
Encanto Cafe will feature a Mediterranean menu with coastal Italian influences. Hoefs is aiming to bring a menu that adds variety to the selection of restaurants on the island.
In the morning, Encanto Cafe will offer a light breakfast with coffee and pastries, with a wine bar with an outdoor patio operating from 3-9 p.m. daily. The wine list will feature Mediterranean and Italian wines as well as light bites and charcuterie.
“It’s a very iconic building. People walk in here and are just like ‘wow.’ I want it to be a destination,” Hoefs said. “We want to have a really incredible venue for the island that is open to the public and that everyone can enjoy.”
