Growing Tex-Mex brand Barrio Burrito Bar is expanding in Florida and throughout the U.S., with a total of 23 locations now active in states as far-flung as Connecticut, Texas, and Hawaii. This August, it will open its 24th location nationwide at the Shoppes at Alafia in Riverview, at 9830 Upper Alafia Court.

“This will be fifth location in Florida, with four more set to open in 2026,” Zach Schaap, master franchisee for Florida, told What Now on Thursday. “It’s also store number 24 for the U.S.; it’s expected to be 40 by the end of 2026.”

What’s been leading to such rapid growth? What Now asked Schaap.

“Well, we offer an alternative to the larger competitors, with a lot more variety in toppings and sauces. We bring that neighborhood approach; we’re proud to give back to our community.”

Opening near Home2 Suites by Hilton, Barrio Burrito Bar will serve up its ever-more-popular Tex Mex offerings. Its currently featured Dynamite Menu includes the Dynamite Shrimp Regular Burrito (A handheld masterpiece! Stuffed with dynamite shrimp, beans, cheese, salsa, toppings, and sauces), also available as a burrito bowl, as tacos, or as a large burrito. In each of these forms, guests can choose from a wide range of proteins, including Spicy Chicken, Crunchy Chicken, Steak, Carnitas, and Veggie Ground.

“We’ve had a very good response, very good reviews from everybody who tries it,” Andy, a local co-owner of the Riverview location told What Now on Thursday. “We’ll be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., doing dine-in and takeout.”

Barrio Burrito Bar is a sister concept to the Canadian chain BarBurrito.
